I did a ton of research and finally decided to go with this unit despite no reviews at the time. Installation was a breeze (using Mac OS X) except for one part where it asks you to set up a print queue. After doing so, it didn’t recognize it after multiple attempts. I finally decided to click past that step and it worked fine anyway.
We printed about a dozen photos over the first three days. On day 4, the printer booted up and slammed the print cartridge hard to the left, then came up with a “Carriage Jam” error. The nice thing about the touch screen is that it also visually walks you through pictures of the areas that you need to check for paper jams, etc.. Alas, after going through every trouble shooting step provided, it didn’t solve the problem.
We returned it to Amazon (Very hassle free I might add–can’t fault them a bit) and decided to try a second one since we did like the features. I was glad to see that Amazon ships you another even before you return the defective one. So far this one is working fine although it’s only been a couple of days.
Our last HP was probably 4 years old. I have to say the print speed on this HP Photosmart Premium is amazingly fast by comparison. I’m impressed it can print a 4×6 photo as fast as it does. Copy and scan work well too, although I’ve found I have to initiate scanning from the Mac. Didn’t seem to work if I tried to use the touchscreen to scan. I was pleased how easy they make choosing options with scanning. You can scan a document straight to PDF, JPEG, TIFF, Memory Card, USB drive, OCR…
Overall, it does seem as though this printer is very well made. It’s also great having a tray for both paper and 4×6 photos. Unlike so many printer reviews, it doesn’t appear as though this printer is burning through much ink at all.
Although I would definitely recommend it, I can’t give it 5 stars due to the issues mentioned above.

HP DeskJet F4480 Inkjet All-in-One Printer

This HP DeskJet F4480 was the second one of these that I bought. I got the first one at a retail shop, not at Amazon. I liked the compactness and design so well that I decided to replace an old Epson scanner and Lexmark printer at another location with another HP F4480. I now have more room on my desk for external HD’s and things. I had another HP deskjet some time ago and hated the software that they shipped with it, so I was hesitant to buy the first F4480. HP makes better hardware than they do software, but this software seems much better. I don’t print or make many copies so for me the small ink cartridges are not a big issue. But if you plan on doing a lot of printing, especially photos you’ll be replacing cartridges more often than you would like. But this goes for most brands of inexpensive inkjet printers.

Canon PIXMA MP560 Wireless Inkjet All-In-One Photo Printer

I’ve had this Canon PIXMA MP560 printer for about a month now so please don’t base this off a longterm use of the product. Since I’ve only had the printer for a month I cannot comment on ink usage since I use the printer once or twice a week. So far the printer has worked well. I have a Wireless network setup (802.11 b/g/n) and the printer connects without any problems to both desktops on my network. I was also able to connect the printer via WEP (128-bit) and WPA-PSK/WPA-PSK2 Personal. I found that you will need a link strength of 50% or more and signal strength close to 70% for a smooth run on print and scan via the wireless network. I love that the scan can be setup directly on the printer for you to send to the computer as PDF/image. This really cuts down on my time to convert to PDF which is a very nice feature. Standard Printing good quality – better than my old HP PSC 1210xi. I particularly like how the MP560 can print individual photos rather than letter size photo paper (requiring you to cut out). The borderless printing is VERY NICE – I haven’t seen any issues with bleeding or off colors (using a canon high gloss paper). The power cord is slim and good length – no bulky adapter to deal with, especially when you have a power strip that has been taken up by other large adapters. As I mentioned the ink I cannot comment on at the moment for usage but the installation of print head and cartridges was very simple – just follow the directions to avoid any damage. Sorry this isn’t very technical but I figured I’d just put a comment up for a nice wireless printer at a good price. I didn’t see any other reviews but wanted to point this one out as a good printer. Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018 Laptop

I bought this Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018 laptop today at best buy because my other laptop (a compaq presario) kept overheating. It would get so hot and if I was downloading a movie or anything, it would get really loud and sometimes shut off. I didn’t have a large budget, and I found this at best buy for $479. It had good reviews in consumer reports, and my choice was between this and the dell inspiron. I bought this because it was about $70 cheaper, had 80 more gigs of hard drive space and an extra gig of ram, plus, it had a built in webcam. It’s great for what I need it for (so far) which is homework, downloading movies/music, light video editing, and general every day web browsing. I will say though that the webcam sucks. It is very dark (even with lots of lights on around me) and it’s very fuzzy. I’m kind of disappointed because it was one of the selling points for me, to have the webcam built in, but it looks like I will have to use my logitech pro still. I will try and play around with the settings though and see if that will help any.
Overall though I am still giving this a 5 star review because of the fact that the price I paid today was great for what I am getting. It is perfect for what I need it for and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
However, I have only had it for a few hours lol so if things change I will update this review.
